I think the idiom that says more about the countrie and the history, culture of a nation is the Italian Language. A idiom that was born of the mixture of other languages borned in cities of Italia, this languages had many influences with passing of the centuries and became strong and unique.. I’m a proud descendant of Italians =D

italian oficial language was latin until 1600′s or 1700′s.
I guess Dante Alighieri wrote the divine comedy (in early 1300′s) in italian idiom (called dialect of toscana).
divine comedy is a very important book and it was (and also itz) very popular.
so toscana dialect was used as the popular language of whole italy.
some centuries after dante alighieri toscana dialect become the italian oficial language and it was named just Italian.
